Technology in the classroom
I would like you to find videos, articles, anything on technology in the classroom, its' usefulness, its' controversial connections, and post them on your blogs, like one of the students here has already done and we can comment on them on our blogs, and we can discuss them in class as well.

ReplyDeleteThis video was interesting. I could see this being very controversial. I always graviatate towards the balanced approach - technology should not be neglected, but it should also be presented as a tool. it is not the be all and end all. However, the video does communicate that we need to ENGAGE our students and teach them to THINK. Concepts that seem simple enough but in reality are complex. We need to ask ourselves why are we educating our students? So that they can do the things we want them to or so that they can grow to become contributing members of their community and think creatively and critically.
ReplyDeleteThis is real interesting as to how the younger generation in really interested in learning about technologies and learning with the technologies. It is just like learning in school but learning without a pencil and paper. This also forces the older generation to become familiar with technology.

ReplyDeleteYes yes I am all for technology in the classroom. Combined with the Net, computer assisted learning will only add to the quality of the learning experience. However, we will have to increase the potency of our own epistemologies to ensure that what we bring into the classroom is real, factual, and a little bit more than some relative truth; at least when it comes to displaying hard historical facts.
ReplyDeleteThe other issue about all the technology is how distracting it can become. For example, we must remember the person who suffers phantom rings of the cel phone. There are even folks who suffer from hearing a phantom "you 've got mail" ding.
I do like how the video says that students will be able to "produce." It is my hope that they will be able to produce hard copy work which activates their left brain in conjunction with the media activating the right brain! lol.

ReplyDeleteThis video is very powerful.I noticed it was similar to the message conveyed from the music video, by George Strait(Nice looking Man, eh?).
Technology is a scary thing today, and I have heard teachers back home saying that they "stay away from computers, and TECHNOLOGY". Most of them being "old school teachers". The video's message says that todays children are more techno saavy and that as teachers, even "seasoned teachers" should keep up with 'THE JONES'S'. Yes, I guess, but we have to maintain a balance with the "real life necessities" too. Don't forget a mere smile and taking time to "talk", not smiley faces, "text messaging" or constant sitting in front of a computer 24/7. Actually interaction does wonders too. Ekosani!
Even though I have always been for technology in the classroom, I think that this video tells us a lot about the different ways that children learn, and how we can accommodate their learning processes. Technology is a vehicle to ensure that the children can have an easier time learning and a way of getting information to them. Using technology in the classroom allows visual learners, hands on learners (the many different kinds of learners) can help reach as many children as we can to help them learn.
ReplyDeleteThe video is about students wanting more technology in classrooms, to be more engaged in learning and wanting to be more advanced like China students. But some communities don't have access to computers and internet. Also, there are no computers in classrooms for the students to use only the teachers.
